Yet rather than an American problem alone, the Global Peace Index 2021 reports that world peace continues to deteriorate, with civil unrest and political instability increasing. Is peace a hopeless pursuit?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Isaiah prophesied during a turbulent period in Judah\u2019s history. Because the Jews chose their way instead of God\u2019s, trusting in human power rather than the Lord\u2019s, their nation faced danger and destruction. Actions always have consequences. Despite the coming disaster, God assured his people of ultimate victory, and the sign would be the birth of a child.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>For to us a child is born,&nbsp;to us a son is given, and the government&nbsp;will be on his shoulders. And&nbsp;he will be called Wonderful Counselor,&nbsp;Mighty God, Everlasting&nbsp;Father,&nbsp;Prince of Peace.<\/em><\/p><cite><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Isaiah+9%3A6&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Isaiah 9:6<\/a><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The baby would be not just any child, but a son, a ruler, one who would be both human and divine. This promised child is also our only hope, both individually and nationally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>When we need direction, he is our&nbsp;<em>Wonderful Counselor<\/em>.&nbsp;<em>I will instruct&nbsp;you and teach you&nbsp;in the way you should go.<\/em>&nbsp;(<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Psalm+32%3A8&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Psalm 32:8<\/a><\/em>)<\/li><li>When we face danger, he is our&nbsp;<em>Mighty God<\/em>.&nbsp;<em>God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.<\/em>(<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Psalm+46%3A1&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Psalm 46:1<\/a><\/em>)<\/li><li>When we feel deserted, he is our&nbsp;<em>Everlasting Father<\/em>.&nbsp;<em>God has said, \u201cNever will I leave you; never will I forsake you.\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;(<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Hebrews+13%3A5&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hebrews 13:5<\/a><\/em>)<\/li><li>When we are disturbed, he is our&nbsp;<em>Prince of Peace<\/em>.&nbsp;<em>And the peace of God,&nbsp;which transcends all understanding,&nbsp;will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.<\/em>&nbsp;(<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Philippians+4%3A7&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Philippians 4:7<\/a><\/em>)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>To experience Immanuel\u2014God with us\u2014we must surrender to his control, allowing him to govern our lives. Only then can we know his perception, power, presence, and peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Be a Purveyor of Peace<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Everyone needs the peace (shalom\u2014inner completeness and calmness) that only the Messiah can bring, but we can\u2019t pass on what we don\u2019t possess. How can we be purveyors of peace this Christmas? By reflecting our Savior\u2019s wisdom, strength, love, and shalom to a watching and waiting world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prayer: Lord God, you are the answer both to my problems and the world\u2019s. You count on your children to carry your love and light to a darkened world. As I submit to your leadership, empower me to be a peacemaker.
